About this event

ACEN is excited to announce that the 2023 Parent Summit will take place on

SATURDAY 18th MARCH

9.30am - 4pm

Emanual School - (Battersea Rise, London SW11 1HS)

The ACEN (African Caribbean Education Network) Parent Summit, now in its second year, will be held at Emanuel School, Battersea, London from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday 18th March 2023.

This event is aimed at parents of African Caribbean children interested in finding out about applying to independent and/or grammar schools and will provide Black parents/carers and students with the opportunity to learn about and understand the admissions processes for the 4+, 7+ 11+ and 13+ entry points.

Admissions guidance, advice and information on bursary and scholarship applications will be provided by representatives from a selection of schools. In addition, Black parents who currently have children in the independent and/or grammar sectors, alongside a panel of current students, will share valuable insights into their recent experiences of successfully navigating the admissions processes, the transition, and settling into their current schools.

Tutors specialising in grammar and independent school exam preparation across all entry points will also be providing crucial information on all aspects of exam preparation and will be keen to answer your questions.

There’s something for the children too! Students aged 7 and above will also have the opportunity to participate in activities and workshops on the day where they will get advice and tips directly from students in independent or grammar schools and tutors who will give them a taster of the topics and techniques that selective school exams will require them to master.

Refreshments and a light lunch are also included in the price.

Children over the age of 7 are welcome and their attendance is free. Unfortunately, we can not cater to children below this age.

Families with children on pupil premium can also register to attend for free.

We are thrilled that BookLove will also be joining us on the day. The BookLove Carnival is a multicultural travelling book carnival and online shop which is campaigning for classrooms and reading lists to be more inclusive. 20p from every book they sell will be donated to providing free multicultural books for schools.
